A release is a mechanical trigger used in compound archery instead of the fingers to release the bowstring. It is one of the most important pieces of equipment for compound archers. Instead of pulling and releasing the bowstring with your fingers (as with recurve or longbows), you hook the release into the D-loop and pull the bow out with the release. The shot is then triggered mechanically - by a trigger, a twist or draw tension.
