The peep sight is built directly into the bowstring and ensures that you always look through the same point in the bowstring when aiming - and therefore in a constant, reproducible line: Eye → Peep Sight → Scope (sight) → Target
The Peep Sight is inserted in the middle of the string (between the strings). When the bow is drawn, the string rotates so that the small hole in the peep sight appears right in front of your eye.
